"The Scipioni sisters have made Iris and Lily into living people with this book.

“Their intelligent and perceptive descriptions of the relationships in the lives of Iris and Lily strongly resonate with me. Iris and Lily, in addition to their unfortunate romantic relationships, have a complex personal relationship with each other. We also get to know their family, friends, schoolmates, neighbors, teachers, co-workers and in-laws as real people in real situations.

“A more universal undercurrent in the book, the tension between pragmatic reality and joy, challenges us to re-examine our own lives. We want our life choices to be based on reality so we can avoid suffering failure after failure. Yet we want joy in our lives so our lives will have meaning. We watch Iris and Lily intuitively seek to reach above a compromise of these goals and find more than a balance - to harmonize them into a joyous reality. This undercurrent in the book is powerful and speaks to all of us."

"I thoroughly enjoyed this gem! The story unfolds like a flower growing more vibrant and beautiful, along with it's prickly stem...I was carried back to the past...growing up in the 60's and 70's...and the evolution of women's roles and expectations ....very relevant and timeless. This was one of my favorite books of all time...poignant and raw yet also sweet and loving."

"Loved the three book series… Iris and Lily reminded me of friends and the life choices they made to get away from home. I felt like I knew Iris and Lily and had to keep reading books 2 and 3 to find out how their lives turned out. Now our book club is reading the triology so we can discuss the women's issues addressed in the novel. They made me laugh, cry and sigh and ultimately rejoice in their lives."

A Must Read

“A Must Read! This is probably one of the most important series that I have ever read. It is also most relevant to everyone . I started the book series and could not let it go. It touched me on so many levels. As a sister, daughter , wife and mother of a girl and 2 boys. The story brought me back to my childhood. My sister and I were very close. Our mother was a widow . She was the product of a very lonely , troubled life. She was widowed at the age of 37 . She spent her life looking to be loved and struggling to raise us on her own. As I get older I understand our journey better . My mother was extremely intelligent and hard working. She struggled with alcoholism and spousal abuse from her second husband. But she was able to pull herself together many times. We lived frugally but we were always cared for. I hope the readers understand how important it is to teach young boys and girls to be respectful and loving. Whoever reads this will realize how family and love shapes our lives.”

“This is one of the best books I have ever read and I read many. It really deserves the best rating for the story it contains. The novelist way the authors' unique style kept me excited and anticipating turning the next page to read what would happen next. The distance between the two continents and the vastness of the “pond" cannot alter the deep connection between the sisters love that exists for one another. Being brought up in a large Catholic family, I could really appreciate many of the traditions and feelings they described. In the expressive way the authors tell different scenarios transports you so you can feel and even smell so many parts, like the rotten apples, the salty gentle sea breeze, the rich sauces cooking on the stove.”

“I think this is the first time I've ever read a book that made me look at my life closer rather than getting so absorbed in the characters lives that I missed the meanings I gleaned from reading their story. I'm the same age as the authors. Grew up with the same quandaries about marriage and babies and one foot in the stay at home camp and one foot in being employed outside the home. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. Well done, ladies.”

“Iris & Lily has become my all time favorite book.. I loved every word of this book . Iris &Lily has moved The Thornbirds and Pillars of the Earth to 2nd and 3rd place as my all time favorite books. I could relate to many experiences the sisters had as I compared my sister and I to Iris and Lily's story. From rubber bands holding up knee socks that had lost their elasticity and sharing bedtime stories and dreams to feeling as if one life was a better life then the other*s to finding out each life was handed its own set of complications. This book expressed the connection of sisters perfectly. I hope for a continuation as I want to know what happens next in these sister's lives.”

"This very authentic tale of two sisters growing up in a large family took me on an emotional rollercoaster ride. Their lives rang true in what it is like to end up children of divorce and how that impacts future relationships. The storytelling captivated me so that I found myself reading for hours caught up in the challenges each of them faced. As the story concluded I found myself wanting there to be more…"

"Iris and Lily became like a part of my family as I read this book. I laughed and cried and thought about the story when I was busy doing other things. I stayed up way too late at night reading, each chapter reprimanding myself, "Only one more chapter tonight", but unable to stop reading. It brought back some happy memories of my childhood, and I realized that most siblings have a deep connection throughout life, regardless of their

childhood. As the twelve siblings grow up and develop their own lives and families, when given the chance, they reconnect and find ways to enjoy one another. One can't help but identify with one or more of the well developed and very human characters in this book. Having finished the book, I am wondering how Lily is managing and what Iris might decide to next!"

“The story of two sisters who grew up close in a large family, until life took them in different directions. This is the story of their separate but joined lives and how they found their way back to each other. Any one who is a sister will relate to the dynamics of their relationship and depth of their love for one another.”
